Secret Leather Projects 2 and 3 from before Christmas

Sorry, I am a little slow. Been busy with snow and Teddy Bear and that leaves me exhausted and sick with pain.

The second secret leather project was a belt for my father. He is a large man, so it was not an easy project to work with. We designed it so the buckle can be replaced (maybe he will find a western one he likes some day).

The primary motifs are his initials and oak leaves. The leaves seemed to fit, because he always liked the woods. He taught me to identify a lot of trees when I was little.

When I was a kid, he always wore cordovan (ox blood) colored shoes, so we decided to use a similar color for the belt. But I think he often wears black shoes these days, so we used black lace for extra details. That way it matches both colors!

The final project is much smaller and easier. It is a bookmark for my maternal grandmother. I failed to photograph the back--it has a clip on it so it stays on the page easily.

It was  my first attempt at doing a basketweave design. I can see the flaws but not sure how glaringly obvious they are.
