Secret Leather Project

I finally finished the secret leather project I have mentioned a few times. I gave it to its designated recipient yesterday. So now I can share a few pictures of what I was making.

The recipient does a good bit of writing, so this is designed as a personalized writing notebook. The front side has a flower motif with her initials in a scroll. The back flap is only marked with my maker mark, the four bars double R logo. The inside back flap is marked that is property of my recipient, so no one can steal it hopefully.

A leather loop holds a pen. The notebook itself is a hardbound A5 size. These are relatively standard, so she should easily be able to replace the notebook when the current one is filled up. A magnetic snap is used to close the leather notebook. The closure is placed inside the front so that it does not mar the design.

The entire piece is held together with double loop lacing. I am thankful to my mother for the pamphlet that gave me the pattern for making that lacing.

When we showed a friend the incomplete project over the weekend and the wallet I gave DH for Christmas, I got my first order for a new project. He owns pacing horses for harness racing, so I need to make a design appropriate for that. Because they often lend us the horse trailer and even offered that we could use their car next weekend we still don't have our own back, he will only be paying the material cost. I need to find some designs yet. But I am very proud that my work is so well received.
